SUMMER 2008


FALL 2008

Watch for news of our Birding Program that will resume in October 2008.  We will have scheduled walks from early October through to mid-April 2009.

WINTER 2008-2009


CHRISTMAS BIRD COUNT (December 14, 2008 through January 5, 2009)

The next Christmas Bird Count is scheduled to begin December 14, 2008 and end January 5, 2009.  Watch here for details about how Broward County Audubon Society will be participating in this National Audubon event.   

GREAT BACKYARD BIRD COUNT (February 13-16, 2009)

The Great Backyard Bird Count is a joint project of Cornell Lab of Ornithology under its Citizen Science activities and organizations such as Audubon.  Participants count the number of birds in each speicies in their own back yards or nearby locations for at least 15 minutes one or more days in the schedule.  They report their findings by locations and dates using survey forms and checklists found online at http://www.birdsource.org.  At that site you can also find details about the photo contest, ways to upload video clips, and view photos taken.  Results of the 2008 bird count are available by location and species.  For Florida the bird with the most counts was the American Coot.  

SPRING 2009


 Water Matters Day

Water Matters Day is an annual event presented by Broward County Environmental Protection Department, Water Resources Division.  Broward County Audubon Society (BCAS) is one of many organizations usually exhibiting at this event. Besides exhibits there are workshops with experts on landscaping, gardening, and making environments more inviting to native wildlife. There are also activities for children, entertainment, and giveaways.  For 2009 dates and details watch here and/or at http://www.broward.org/watermatters.  

Give Thanks for the Environment Day

'Give Thanks for the Environment Day' is an annual event that brings together environmental, conservation and wildlife organizations as well as environmentally-conscious businesses, environmental student programs and environmental practitioners.  There are exhibits, presentations, and varied outdoor activities ranging from bird walking or hiking to kayaking.
