Our New Home at Sunny Lake Bird Sanctuary

A new chapter for conservation, education, birding, and community engagement in the Town of Davie.

For decades, the South Florida Audubon Society has worked to protect birds, wildlife, and their habitats.

Now, SFAS has a place to call home.

The Sunny Lake Bird Sanctuary, located at 5300 Griffin Road in Davie, Florida, is now home to SFAS and will serve as a center for conservation, environmental education, birding programs, and community activities.

This new home gives SFAS a place to welcome the community, inspire the next generation of conservationists, and provide hands-on opportunities to learn about and protect South Florida’s birds, wildlife, and natural habitats.

We’re excited to begin this next chapter at the Sunny Lake Bird Sanctuary, and we invite you to be part of it.

What SFAS Plans to Do Here

Sunny Lake Bird Sanctuary gives SFAS the opportunity to build a permanent, welcoming place for environmental education and conservation programming in South Florida.

Upcoming plans include:

  • Birding programs and guided walks that help visitors learn to identify local and migratory birds.
  • Environmental education programs for families, students, and community groups.
  • School field trips that connect classroom learning with South Florida’s wildlife and habitats.
  • Community science activities that invite residents to participate in bird monitoring and conservation.
  • Native planting and bird-friendly habitat projects that demonstrate how people can support wildlife where they live.
  • Volunteer stewardship opportunities that give community members meaningful ways to take action.
  • Public programs, workshops, and meetings that bring people together around birds, conservation, and the environment.

A Place for Birds, Learning, and Community

Our goal is for Sunny Lake Bird Sanctuary to become a place where people can discover birds, learn about South Florida’s ecosystems, participate in community science, volunteer, and become more involved in conservation.

As SFAS develops programming at the sanctuary, we look forward to welcoming residents, families, students, birders, volunteers, and community partners to this new home.
