BO-002 Historical Eagles

Meet the Eagles

The adults and eaglets whose lives were documented by South Florida’s eagle-watching community.

Names are historical identifiers, not proof of permanent identity. The archive uses the names observers used in the source record. Sex, parentage and outcomes are stated only to the level supported by those records.

Joy

Joy was Pride’s original documented mate. The archive identifies Pride and Joy as the parents of the first 13 known eaglets recorded through their final breeding season together in 2013–2014.

After Joy’s final breeding season, a new female joined Pride. The forum initially called her “Newfie”; the historical record later used the name Jewel. Pride and Jewel produced later BO-002 broods.

P Piney 10 & 11
The milestone table lists P Piney 10 as hatched 29 Dec 2012 and fledged 26 Mar 2013; P Piney 11 hatched ~31 Dec and was presumed lost after a 30 Mar ground search. A separate notes field conflicts with that assignment, so the discrepancy is retained.

The Pride & Jewel Chapter

The 2014–2015 season was a transition year and the archive reports no successful brood. In 2015–2016 the pair experienced an early brood loss, then produced a second brood; the surviving eaglet was later named Spirit. Later records continue the P Piney numbering through at least P Piney 27.

P Piney 14
Hatched ~17 Jan 2016; documented being fed at about two days old, then not seen again after storm damage to the nest.

2019–2020 photos →
P Piney 24 & 25
Second brood of 2019–2020. P Piney 24 hatched ~14 Mar and fledged 21 May; P Piney 25 hatched ~17 Mar and fledged 2 Jun.

P Piney 26 & 27
P Piney 26 was grounded with a broken wing, rehabilitated and released 14 Jun 2021. P Piney 27 fell on 18 Mar, was severely injured and was later euthanized.

Source reconciliation: the historical milestone record now accounts for P Piney 1 through P Piney 27. The remaining documented conflict is in 2012–2013, where the family-album table and a separate notes field disagree about the P Piney 10/11 mortality assignment. We preserve both statements rather than resolve them by assumption.
